We are honored to have been able to work with Project 34 to provide a gorgeous bathroom remodel to a well deserving client. Project 34 is a non profit organization with the goal of improving the quality of life to those with spinal cord injuries. Inspired by Cory Hahn's personal journey, Project 34 aims to ease stress and burdens associated with life after injury. We are grateful and excited to have a partnership with them on this project.
Our South Mountain project focused on creating a safe and functional bathroom for our client living with a spinal cord injury. Though the existing bathroom was spacious, the features were not able to be used by someone living with paralysis. This bathroom actually had the space planning in the right spots so we were able to do complete a non invasive renovation by keeping the existing layout and adding in barrier free elements.
We were inspired by the concept of a wet room, having the tub and shower in the same space. Our client had gotten used to taking baths, because that was the only accessible of way of bathing in the previous layout. We wanted to keep a bathtub in the design plan while adding a curb less shower. To make transfers into the bath easier we added a 12 inch transfer ledge with a grab bar on the side. A spacious shower complete with hand held shower head and product ledge gives our client many options.
By reconfiguring the vanity area, we were able to add more usable storage, as well as to roll under sinks. The concrete countertop adds a rugged element against the refined cabinetry. Bold tiles with strong lines are the star of the design plan. We wanted to keep with the homes more warm color pallet while bringing in some modern grays and balance of cooler neutrals.
